What kind of science are middle schoolers doing these days? If they’re finalists at Broadcom MASTERS 2020, they’re:

  • Using machine learning to predict the growth of wildfires—and COVID-19
  • Identifying a more eco-friendly way to do laundry
  • Exploring the impact of electromagnetic frequencies on E. coli
  • Testing concussion guards
  • Determining if the settings of a 3D printer affect its strength
  • Examining the impact of vaping on cellular function

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation’s most exciting middle school competition—the Broadcom MASTERS—has gone virtual for 2020. And that means for the first time, students everywhere can meet the amazing 7th, 8th, and 9th graders who will be competing this month. So consider this year’s Science and Engineering Project Showcase at the Broadcom MASTERS a virtual STEM fair your class can attend!

What is the Broadcom MASTERS?

The Broadcom MASTERS is the nation’s premier middle school STEM competition. This year, the 30 finalists will compete for more than $100,000 in awards, as well as recognition as the nation’s most promising young scientists and engineers. They’ll participate in team challenges and be judged on their individual research projects.

How does the field trip work?

You can check out all the projects in the virtual exhibit hall now through Nov. 4. Don’t miss the educational materials and activities created just for teachers who bring their students to the exhibit—and visit the STEM Experiential Hall where you can access interactive and immersive STEM experiences.
